DAY. 01: ARRIVAL OF ADDIS ABABA AND SIGHT SEEING

Upon arrival at Bole International airport, you will be meet OVET Ethiopia Tours representatives and be taken to your reserved hotel. Depending upon a time make sightseeing in Addis Ababa. The sightseeing includes the national museum (where you can see the Lucy fossil skeleton found), Unity Park, and Entoto hills.

DAY 02: FLY TO ARBA MINCH AND VISIT DORZE VILLAGE

Catch a late morning flight to Arba Minch. Meet the driver at the airport and transfer to the hotel. after some short rest drive back to Dorze Village. to visit Dorze people. Among their very interesting cultures are their houses built from the bamboo way of life and cultivation of the false banana (from which they extract their local bread, called Kotch).

DAY 03: EXCURSION IN ARBA MINCH THEN DRIVE TO TURMI

Make a boat trip excursion on Lake Chamo to see some crocodiles, Hippos, and a lot of water birds. Then drive to Turmi on the way to visit Konso tribe village. Konso tribe is known for their unique social life structure and practicing agriculture terracing.

DAY 04: EXCURSION TO OMORATE

Excursion to Omorate to visit the Dasenach tribes across the Omo river by wooden local boat then come back to Turmi in the afternoon to visit the nearby hammer tribe village, also possible to see special occasion ceremonies like wedding and ritual.

DAY 05: DRIVE TO JINKA VIA KARO VILLAGE

Early Excursion to Karo village for the visit of Karo tribes with their interesting body decorations and scarification; Then drive to Jinka. in the late afternoon visit Ari Village.

DAY 06: EXCURSION TO MURSI

In the morning excursion to Mursi tribes village. Mursi tribes is the most famous tradition includes the lip plate worn by the women. The origin of this tradition is not known but the Mursi themselves consider it as something that makes them distinct from the surrounding tribes. Afternoon visit South Omo Research Centre Museum, dedicated to preserving certain aspects of traditional tribal life in the Omo Valley.

DAY 07: DRIVE TO YABELLO VIA KONSO VILLAGE

Morning after breakfast drive to Yabello on the way visit Tsemai village.

DAY 08: EXCURSION TO ELSOD CREATOR SALT LAKE AND DRIVE TO YIRGALEM

In the morning excursion to Elosd, the crater salt lake to see the Borena people extracting mud salt for their livestock food and on the way back stop at Dubluk to see the singing well typical of Borena tribes when they serve their cattle from 20 M deep wells. Then proceed driving to Yirgalem

DAY 09: DRIVE TO BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

Drive to Bale Mountains National Park. Here you will see many of the endemic birds like Blue-winged goose, Spot-breasted lapwing, Abyssinian long claw, Wattled ibis, Black-headed siskin, Rouget’s rail, Banded barbet, and of course other species, too.

DAY 10: MORE EXCURSIONS IN THE BALE MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK

Drive to Sanete Plateau. While crossing a lush green forest, you will enjoy the Semien Wolves, endemic mammals. Then you will take another hike to the right-hand side of the road to reach the highest peak, 4377 meters above sea level. It is here where you will highly experience the chilly wind. Then you will walk slightly down and down across a moorland landscape dotted with white and yellow cushions of flowers, colorful lichen-covered rocks, and sparse Giant Lobelias. You will visit many water birds in the small lakes. Also, walk in the Harena Forest to see Bale monkey and possibly lion and on further excursion may enable you to see Ruspoli’s Turaco.

DAY 11: DRIVE TO HAWASSA

Heading to Awassa. Awassa is a bustling Ethiopian town in the heart of the Great Rift Valley. It is the capital of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples Region- a melting pot of over 50 distinct tribes all with their own traditions, languages, dress, dance, and culture. The town is built on the shores of beautiful Lake Awassa and is overlooked by Tabor Mountain. The abundance and variety of the lake’s birdlife are truly spectacular.

DAY 10: DRIVE BACK TO ADDIS AND DEPARTURE

Early morning after breakfast drive back via Awassa and visit the daily local fish market at lake Awassa. Evening fare well dinner at traditional restaurant and transfer to airport for flight back to home.


This itinerary is flexible, and will likely change in order to coordinate visits with weekly market days and other special events. We try to always coordinate with local tribes to bring guests to the iconic Bull Jumping Ceremony, as well as popular market days, where many South Omo Valley tribes attend to barter and exchange goods. This is a great opportunity to mingle with the people, many of whom travel long distances on foot to attend.
